Receive Recognition for their British Horse Society TREC Success |
Riders
from all over the country were at the British Horse Society (BHS)
North and Yorkshire Awards Party held on 18 January 2003, at the
Morritt Arms Hotel, Greta Bridge, County Durham to receive South
Essex Insurance Brokers BHS TREC League Awards for their achievements
in BHS TREC competitions in 2002.

Bartle-Wilson, former Olympic dressage rider, made the presentations
on behalf of the BHS and sponsors South Essex Insurance Brokers.
Kathy Wilding from Shifnal in Shropshire took Champion Individual
at Level 1 & 2 by a single point from Surrey rider Hilary
Barnard with Alison Elmer from Lincoln third. |

Champion
pair at this level were the 'Quantock Cavalleros', Vanessa Warren
& Ros Wood from Bridgwater in Somerset, with Sheila Roberts
and Pat Funnell from North Yorkshire runners-up and Penny Lines
and Julie Warner from the West Midlands, in their first TREC
season, finishing third. |

Ros
Evans of Saltcoats, Ayrshire received a superb bridle donated
by the Worshipful Company of Saddlers as Champion Individual
for the Level 3 & 4 League, adding this to her Level 4 Scottish
Championships title. Faye Hamilton from Lanark, Ros' conqueror
at the Welsh Championships, was runner up with Caroline Brammer
of Shrewsbury, 2002 British Champion, third. |
Throughout
the 2002 season competitors placed in the top ten at affiliated
BHS TREC events collected points with their best four results counting
towards the South Essex Insurance Brokers sponsored titles.
BHS
TREC is a three-phase event consisting of orienteering on horseback,
following a route on a map at pre-determined speeds, a control of
paces test, and a cross-country obstacle course that involves negotiating
hazards that a rider might encounter whilst out hacking in the countryside.
TREC reflects the British Horse Society objectives in encouraging
riders to improve their skills and to make riding in the countryside
safer and more enjoyable.
