Cleveland Bay Society of North America Announces New Awards Program

The Cleveland Bay Horse Society of North America announces a new awards program for 2003. Instead of one overall versatility award, purebreds and partbreds (sport horses) will compete for year end awards in several disciplines including: Dressage, Eventing, Driving, Distance Riding, Hunter/Jumper, Western, Sport-horse In Hand and Versatility.

The Cleveland Bay is the oldest established breed of English horse. The first studbook was published in 1884, the breed is listed as endangered, but is making a come back . Many modern European warmblood were developed from Cleveland Bay stock. Notable Cleveland enthusiasts are HRM Queen Elizabeth II, HRH Prince Philip, and the late Alexander MacKay-Smith. Partbreds excell at many disciplines including dressage, showjumping, driving and eventing including a past Burghley CCI**** champion.
