South Essex Insurance Brokers Will Sponsor Cross Country Championship

British Horse Society to run more than 50 qualifiers

The British Horse Society's cross country championship, which this year will have more than 50 qualifiers nationwide, is to be sponsored by South Essex Insurance Brokers.

"This is a great competition because it gives experienced riders a chance to ride across country as well as providing a safe introduction for complete novices," said the South Essex equestrian marketing manager, Nicolina MacKenzie.

All the SEIB/BHS Cross Country Championship qualifiers will be held at established events, including those run by riding clubs and local hunts. "So far there are 52 recognised events, but we would be happy to hear from more," said Rob Jones from the Society's competition department.

The two-day final will be held at Wickstead Farm Equestrian Centre at Highworth, near Swindon, on September 27 and 28.

Novice, open and pairs classes will be open to any rider, but only the first two BHS Gold members will qualify in the novice and open, and the first two BHS Gold pairs. Fences will be at a maximum 2ft 9ins for novices and pairs and 3ft 3ins for the open. Horses registered with British Eventing are allowed to compete but not to go forward to the final.
