South Essex Insurance Brokers' BHS TREC League Awards

Riders from all over the country were at The British Horse Society (BHS) North and Yorkshire Awards Party held recently (31 January) at the Morritt Arms Hotel, Greta Bridge, County Durham, to receive South Essex Insurance Brokers' BHS TREC League Awards for their achievements in 2003. The presentations were made by BHS Trustee Alison Fuller.

Competition for the SEIB BHS TREC League titles was fierce throughout the year, with the Level 1 & 2 Pairs League particularly hotly contested. Retaining their 2003 title were the Quantock Cavalleros, Vanessa Warren and Ros Wood, who gained maximum points with four wins and took the Welsh Championships en route. Level 3 & 4 Pairs League champions were Viv Little and Jayne Edge from Tweedsmuir in Scotland.

Individual Champion at this higher level was the consistent David Hay-Thorburn from Argyll, a member of the Silver medal winning team at the World TREC Championships in Belgium in 2003, ahead of fellow GB team rider Faye Hamilton from Lanark and Shropshire based Caroline Brammer. David took home a specially designed TREC bridle donated by the Worshipful Company of Saddlers and the Anthea Kendrick Trophy.

Level 1 & 2 League Individual Champion, Hilary Barnard from Bristol, has been virtually unbeatable all season on her two ponies Poppy and Harvey, with eight wins at Level 2, the Welsh Championships title and also achieving successes with Sheila Roberts in Level 3 Pairs, including the Scotshield British Championship. Joy Taylor (Surrey) and Jocelyn Templeman (West Sussex) put up great efforts to finish second and third respectively to Hilary in the League.
