Jumping - Kurten Sets Cracking Pace At Gothenburg |
It
was Ireland's Jessica Kurten who set a cracking pace at the opening
day of the World Cup Show in Gothenburg, Sweden today (Thursday),
with three Top Ten places in the three major competitions of the
day.
Riding
three different horses, the ten yr-old Lady Preishammer, the nine
yr-old Quibell, and her veteran Grand Prix horse, the 17 yr-old
Paavo N, the Cullybackey-born rider set the standard for her fellow
Northern Irish riders Trevor Coyle and World Champion Dermott Lennon
to follow.
However,
all eyes will be on Coyle this Saturday, when he jumps in the last
qualifying competition for the FEI World Cup Final in Las Vegas
in April. Currently in equal 16th place in the Western European
leaderboard, Coyle must finish in the Top 18 if he is to be the
sole Irish representative at the Final, so points gained at Gothenburg
may
be vital in returning him to the World Cup arena for the first time
since 1999, when he finished Second overall on the Irish-bred stallion
<Cruising>.
