Blood-Horse Publications Joins With Toba And The Parkinson Support Center Of Kentuckiana To Present Derby Eve Gala

LEXINGTON, KY - Blood-Horse Publications, a multimedia publishing company that traces its roots to 1916, joins with the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA) and the Parkinson Support Center of Kentuckiana to present the fifth annual Derby Eve Gala at the Olmsted in Louisville, Ky., on Friday, April 30.

The Derby Eve Gala has raised more than $350,000 in the past three years for the Parkinson Support Center of Kentuckiana (PSCK). PSCK, established in 1999, has allocated Derby Eve funds to The Parkinson Alliance, a national foundation dedicated to education, research, and finding a cure; the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Disease; and the Movement Disorders Program at the University of Louisville Medical Center. PSCK also maintains a resource center, provides monthly support group meetings for Parkinson's patients and their caregivers, and produces a quarterly newsletter.

"The eyes of the sporting world are focused on Thoroughbred racing and Louisville and on Kentucky on this important weekend. Events such as this one help draw attention where it is greatly needed."

Parkinson's disease affects at least 1 million Americans-more people than are affected by Multiple Sclerosis, Muscular Dystrophy, and Lou Gehrig's disease combined. PSCK estimates that between 4,000 and 6,000 people in the Kentucky/Indiana region suffer from the debilitating disease.

This year's Derby Eve Gala will treat guests to mint juleps, Derby handicapping tips; bourbon tasting; jazz piano entertainment; a gourmet dinner, fine wines, and dessert; an extravagant live and silent auction; and dancing to the Jimmy Church Band.

The Parkinson's Time and Motion Award, which is given to an individual who has played a major role in the support of Parkinson's research both locally and nationally, will be presented. Also being presented are the TOBA Choice Awards-the results of an informal internet-based poll tallying some of Thoroughbred racing's favorites from favorite jockey to favorite place to socialize after the races.
