Easton College Lecture Demo Boosts ILPH Funds

Following an extremely successful Piggy French lecture demo organised by Easton College students in Norfolk, the ILPH has received a cheque for £1,579.

As part of the Event Management module of their National Diploma in Horse Management, 12 students from Easton College, Norfolk, ably assisted by course tutor Hilary Francois and groom Lyndsey Platten, had to plan, organise and run a fundraising event.

They chose to organise a lecture demo with rising star event rider, Piggy French. ILPH Hall Farm, Snetterton, Norfolk was chosen as the venue firstly because it has such excellent facilities and secondly because it was felt that the students would learn more from having to liaise directly with an outside organisation in a realistic environment.

The evening was extremely popular and attracted 230 spectators. Piggy gave an excellent insight into her horses and training methods and the evening was a great success thanks the students' effective teamwork, careful planning and hard work.

Michele Thornton, ILPH Hall Farm Centre Manager comments, "Thanks to the huge effort that the students put into this event they managed to raise a substantial amount of money for the ILPH, for which we are very grateful. They were a pleasure to work with and I was very impressed with their hard work and dedication. If this event is an example of their professionalism, then I certainly look forward to future working with the College."

Comments Hilary Francois, Easton College Course Tutor, "I felt that it was important to offer the students a significant challenge. In doing so we were able to give them a chance to practice a vocational skill by taking it out of the classroom and textbooks and making it a real event.

"If all colleges allowed for realistic studies, as we do at Easton college, then students would be able to promote their strengths, while building on their weaknesses."

The students would like to thank the ILPH, Piggy French and everybody who supported the event.
