In the preliminary competition held on Friday, April 2, Seidel, aboard the 15-year-old Westfalian gelding Nikolaus 7 (Weinberg - Elise), had a Grand Prix score of 71.33%. Morse, aboard the 12-year-old Dutch stallion Kingston (Voltaire - Gisnette), turned in a test score of 65.87%.
