Retired Racehorses Receive £10,000 Boost

TRUSTEE of the Moorcroft Racehorse Welfare Centre Brough Scott will today (TUESDAY 17 JUNE) be receiving £10,000 on behalf of one of Britain's welfare centres for retired racehorses.

He will be handed the cheque on the first day of Royal Ascot by Stephen Crown, trustee of the Racehorse Owners Association's Emergency Relief For Thoroughbreds.

ERT was set up by the ROA five years ago to raise money to provide cover for former racehorses found in distress. This is the third lump sum donation being made by the charity. The Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Centre received £10,000 in 2001, and in November last year Greatwood Caring for Retired Racehorses received the same gift.

ERT trustee Stephen Crown, who is also a Council member of the ROA, said: "The Moorcroft Racehorse Welfare Centre does sterling work in caring for the welfare of former racehorses."

On hand to lend his support will be top National Hunt trainer Nicky Henderson.

The most famous resident living at the centre - which is at Huntingrove Stud, Slinford, West Sussex - is Moorcroft Boy, winner of the Scottish Grand National seven years ago.
