Show Jumping - Ireland Gear Up For Vital Battle At Hickstead

LAGGING just half a point behind the leaders France, Ireland will compete at the Samsung Super League competition in Hickstead, England, tomorrow (Friday) at 2.15 pm.

A win for Ireland here would take them to the top of the league table, which features the best eight show jumping teams in the world. A bad performance, however, could result in a drop of several places, from which they may find it hard to recover.

Four Irish riders will compete from a panel of five. The riders are:
Peter Charles
Kevin Babington
Cian O'Connor
Billy Twomey
Clem McMahon

Ireland won the British Nations Cup at Hickstead in 2000 and 2001, and were just a tantalising 1.24 seconds behind winners Germany last year.

Following Hickstead, the next Samsung Super League clash will be at the Dublin Horse Show on August 8.

CURRENT SAMSUNG SUPER LEAGUE LEADERBOARD

1. France - 31 points
2. Ireland - 30.5 points
3. Germany - 18.5 points
4. Great Britain- 16 points
5. Belgium - 13 points
6. Sweden - 7.5 points
7. Italy - 7 points
8. Holland - 6.5 points
