Alyssa Erickson and Mahogany Win The $10,000 Children's Jumper Classic At The Marshall & Sterling National Indoor Finals

WORCESTER, MA (September 20, 2003)--Alyssa Erickson of New Caanan, Connecticut, emerged the victor in the $10,000 Children's Jumper Classic at the Marshall & Sterling League National Indoor Finals. Alyssa bested a field of twenty-seven horse and rider pairs in a competition that was filled with excitement. Second place by a split went to Billy Worthington of Averil Park, New York, aboard Cricket. Finishing in third place was Clementine Goutal of New York, New York, riding Lightfeet.

Competitors negotiated an eleven-obstacle first round course designed by David Ballard of Hornby, Ontario. Thirteen riders went clear to advance to the jump-off.

Erika Christie of Warwick, New York, and her mount Audacity were the first to attempt the shortened six-fence jump-off course. Christie saw her way clear in a very fast time of 30.50 seconds. Her lead held until Clementine Goutal and Lightfeet took their turn in the ring. Goutal went clear in a time of 30.48 seconds, edging into the lead. The next pair to complete the course fault-free was Billy Worthington and Cricket. Worthington pulled out all the stops to steal the lead with 29.99 seconds on the clock. His lead was short-lived, however, as Alisa Erickson and Mahogany set a blistering pace to pass the timers in the winning time of 29.84 seconds.
