FEI BUREAU MEMBERS VISIT THE CHAPIN SITE, VENUE FOR JEREZ 2002

HRH the Infanta Doña Pilar de Borbon sees for herself how the preparations for the World Equestrian Games are progressing

On the occasion of the recent annual meeting of the International Equestrian Federation in Jerez, HRH the Infanta Doña Pilar de Borbon, accompanied by Federation chiefs, did not miss the opportunity yesterday (Wednesday, 21th)to visit the Chapin sports complex, the main venue for the World Equestrian Games in September 2002.

On site at the invitation of the Jerez 2002 Organising Committee, the FEI president praised the way the works were progressing and pointed out what a great advantage it is to have all the horses in the same area - the 30 hectare Chapín venue.

This will be the first time the World Equestrian Games are held at two sporting venues, Chapin and Garrapilos, only 17 kilometres apart.

Chapin will host the main disciplines, such as classical dressage and show jumping, out of the total of seven. The Chapin enclosure includes the main stadium, which has seating capacity for 22.000 spectators, an adjoining stadium; a covered ring and a Sports Hall that holds 6.000 people, where the Vaulting and Reining Championships will be held.

The FEI delegation was accompanied at all times on their tour of the Chapin sports complex by Jerez 2002 General Manager, Antonio Ortiz Rufino and the works responsables.
