Scholarship Program - Essay Contest

Bob Jeffreys, founder of “Partnership Training for Horse and Rider”, clinician, author and horse trainer, announces the establishment of the Partnership Training Young Adult Scholarship. In an ongoing effort to promote education and a deeper understanding of horses, as well as more effective, gentle training techniques, Bob and his clinic partner, Suzanne Sheppard, offer the opportunity for anyone between the ages of 16 years to 21 years who is interested in learning how to train horses to enter an essay contest. The first prize will be a full scholarship ($2000.00 +value) to Level 1 of Bob’s Trainer Education Program in 2003. The second place prize will be a free attendance in one of the Extended Foundation Clinics held at Jeffcrest Ranch. The third place prize will allow the entrant to participate in a Foundation Clinic free of charge.

Each contestant will write and submit an essay (1000-1200 words in length) by December 31, 2002. A panel of 5 Judges will chose the winning essay, as well as second and third place. The subject of the essay is “Why I Want To Be A Horse Trainer….and How I Will Help Both Horses and Riders Make Breakthroughs”.

The first place essay will appear on our website, as well as in print.

Essays will be judged on content, persuasiveness, and originality. Entrants do not have to have previous experience with horses, but do have to possess a commitment to hard work and a strong desire to learn!

Entrants must be a least 16 years old, and no older than 21 years, by May 1, 2003. Those 18 years and younger must have written permission from a parent or guardian.

The winners will be announced by March 1, 2003.

In Level 1 of the Trainer Education Program participants learn all aspects of groundwork, the foundation of horse training. Each will learn how to work in the round pen, to spook train, to teach a horse how to do advanced level leading, trailer loading, the Very Special Safety Lesson, and much more! Level 1 is held at Bob’s Jeffcrest Ranch in Middletown, NY. The session is two weeks long, July 7-11, and July 14-18.

All participants should send their typed, completed essay to Jeffcrest Ranch at 168 Tamms Road, Middletown, New York 10941. Be sure to include your name, address, date of birth, telephone number and email address, if applicable.

Please note that all travel, lodging and meal expenses are for the individuals account and are not covered by this scholarship award.
