Choosing a career and then succeeding at it are not always easy.
But
then 17-year-old Casey Cousins wasn't looking for the easy way,
just the best way to fill her dreams with success.
Casey has always loved horses, so being a horse trainer is her career
choice. To assure her dream will be a success; Casey became the
first in the nation to seek a Professional Designation in Horse
Training from Austin Education Center. Casey will take nine courses,
all online, and all at her convenience.
"I
won a scholarship, but I still have to work to pay for my education,"
says the high school graduate. "So I work in my family's insurance
business and study when I can." Casey lives in Vandergrift,
PA, but since all courses are online, she does her studying at home
instead of traveling to a campus.
"I know I want to train horses, but I'm not positive yet about
specializing. I think maybe I'd like to train horses for dressage
competition-particularly Andalusians."
Being the first student to enroll in the innovative www.horsecoursesonline.com
program, Casey was invited to the Austin Education Center in Weirsdale,
Florida, for a weekend of fun and learning. In addition to visiting
the world renowned Austin Carriage Museum, Casey got a private lesson
on "driving four in hand" from Gloria Austin, founder
of the center which is dedicated to the advancement of horses and
horsemanship. She also got to visit area farms which raise Andalusians
and Thoroughbreds, and she toured the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders
Association.
How to Train Your Horse for Performance Events is the first course
for Casey. She receives her lessons by e-mail and can contact her
instructor by e-mail anytime she has a question or needs assistance.
She studies at her own pace and when she completes a lesson, she
submits a quiz and a narrative report. Her instructor grades her
work and sends back comments and suggestions along with a special
internet link which opens her next lesson.

Casey, who started riding when she was eight years old, is presently
using her 13-year-old Appaloosa mare as her training project.
While Casey was the first student to enroll, the Professional Designation
in Horse Training program is now enrolling students from all over
