National
Equine Forum - the horse world’s voice
The
National Equine Forum has become well known for its thought-provoking
but balanced discussions on a wide range of veterinary and general
equestrian matters.
The
12th National Equine Forum, to be held on Thursday 25th March 2004
at the Royal Veterinary College, London will be no exception. A
carefully chosen programme of speakers, all leading experts in their
fields, will cover a range of topics from foot balance to strangles
and the optimum colour for horse box loading ramps
The
Rt Hon Alun Michael MP Minister for Rural Affairs will lead the
proceedings with ‘a government overview of the industry’,
followed by Graham M Cory, Official for the Horse and Head of DEFRA
Rural Economies and Strategies Division revealing his ‘strategy
for the equine industry’. Other speakers will include Haydn
Price DipWCF, Dr Josh Slater and the winner of the prestigious Eqvalan
Equine Thesis of the Year competition. As usual a slot has been
reserved for topical matters for which speakers will be chosen nearer
the time. Currently, it is expected that these will cover the National
Equine Database, Passports, The Transport of Equines together with
items raised from the floor.
The
National Equine Forum is the only independent conference for the
horse world in the UK. It is not a lobbying organisation. Its major
function is to identify important topics and provide an opportunity
to hear all sides of complex issues. The presentation by Lucy Katan
on “A Groom for the 21st Century” at the 2003 National
Equine Forum stimulated a considerable debate on the role and rewards
of grooms within the equine industry and many of the problems subsequently
identified are now being addressed.
The
Forum is supported by the ABRS, BETA, BEF, BHS, The Blue Cross,
Dodson & Horrell, The Donkey Sanctuary, The Home of Rest for
Horses, ILPH and Merial and chaired by Professor Sir Colin Spedding
CBE.
