Fit not fat

Q I have just started competing my 16.3 warmblood in affiliated dressage competitions, and am struggling to find a feed that gives him enough stamina and energy without making him too fat.

Answer
This is a common problem with many warmbloods and natives, as they often require some concentrates, but less than the manufacturer's recommended amount. Dengie Complement is a highly palatable Alfalfa Balancer that has increased levels of vitamins and minerals, which means the recommended feeding amount is approximately half the quantity of a traditional mix. Dengie Complement should be combined with Dengie Hi-Fi for horses holding their weight well or Alfa-A for those in harder work or needing condition.

Complement is also ideal for the competition horse due to the inclusion of a unique 3-phase probiotic that helps the horse's digestive system cope with the stress of travelling and competing. The levels of linseed and soya also encourage show ring coat condition due to the ideal balance of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids.

For horses that need a little bit of oomph, this can be combined with small quantities of Dengie Naked Oats. These contain 30% more energy per kilo than traditional oats, meaning they can be fed in very small quantities.
